The City and County of Honolulu and the Mayor’s Office of Economic Development, in partnership with the Intercultural Communications College and the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii, will host the first International Student Forum from January 26 to February 2, 2013, in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Dan Yuan, PacRim Marketing Group Marketing and Media Communications Manager / China Market Specialist, chaired the Sister City Student Ambassador program.

Yuan, who helps coordinate and implement public relations and promotional programs for clients wanting to increase their share and spend of the Asian International Traveler market, said the purpose of the event is to provide a platform for international students to learn from other countries about economy, education, environment and global relations and to open the door for international students to understand the U.S through Hawaii as a gateway.

The Forum will bring international Student Ambassadors to Hawaii to promote mutual understanding, communications, and knowledge exchange in tourism, education, and culture between the City and County of Honolulu and the international community. Outstanding students from each partnering city will have the added benefit of bettering their English speaking skills. The Forum is part of the City & County of Honolulu’s Sister City Student Ambassador Program (HSCSAP).

During the week, over 14 government and business leaders will participate in panel discussions on the following topics: Environment, Education, Global Relations (“Exchange”), and Economy. Among the many guest speakers include: Tom Apple, Chancellor of University of Hawai’i at Manoa; John Holman, Director of the Pacific, U.S. Commercial Service; Kerry Gershaneck, Pacific Forum Center for Strategic & International studies; and Gerald Sumida, partner at Carlsmith Ball LLP. The Forum concludes on February 2nd, 2013, at Mission Memorial Auditorium where the Student Ambassadors will share information and culture from the cities they represent. The public is encouraged to attend this historical event and learn about the Honolulu’s Sister Cities in China.
