4/16/2003 Already travelled 3/3/2003 Satoru Hyogo 43 Although it was a worrying time when I went, with war and everything, I decided to go because I had been planning it for half a year.
4/16/2003 Postponed by 9 months 7/3/2003 Hikki Tokyo 45 I had planned to go to the Big Island in March, but with the outbreak of war, I postponed my trip to December. My other trip to Hawaii in July is something I planned 10 months ago and I think, as of now, whatever happens I will go.
4/16/2003 Will travel as planned 6/3/2003 Yamada Kanagawa 42 This is the only time I can take vacation, so I'm going as I do every year.
4/16/2003 Will travel as planned 4/3/2003 Gifu Saaya 22 I'm going today! It seems fine!
4/16/2003 Will travel as planned 4/3/2003 Asaga Tokyo 47 I have no plans to change. My family has arranged work and school so we can take this time off together.
4/16/2003 Will travel as planned 6/3/2003 Chouta Miyazaki 29 I didn't know what to do, but it is our honeymoon, and the two of us really want to go to Hawaii. If we pass up this opportunity, I don't think we'll be able to travel overseas again for a long time.
4/15/2003 Will travel as planned 8/3/2003 Masa Chiba 37 The thought that has occurred to me about SARS is that I may be safer traveling, as every day in my job I am coming face to face with tourists from Hong Kong.
4/15/2003 Will travel as planned 5/3/2003 Dream Prince Chiba 54 I am going because I have planned to go.
4/15/2003 Will travel as planned 7/3/2003 Furukado Hidemi Tokyo 36 I lived in Hawaii for almost 2 years before as part of a study abroad program. This time I plan to visit my host family, my teachers and the place where I did part-time work.
4/14/2003 Will travel as planned 4/3/2003 Mako Osaka 28 I have made a reservation to travel in two weeks time over Golden Week. Actually, I had planned to travel to Hong Kong, Singapore and Bangkok, but, of course, I had to cancel that. There was nothing that made me hesitate on deciding on Hawaii. I'm looking forward to it!
4/14/2003 Will travel as planned 5/3/2003 Dai Tokyo 39 I will enjoy my vacation over Golden Week as planned. I'm also planning another trip for summer as well. We are going because we and our children are really looking forward to it, and there isn't the problem of SARS because we're not going to China or Asia.
4/13/2003 Will travel as planned 5/3/2003 Min Osaka 31 Actually, I was meant to be traveling to Beijing and Shanghai next week (from April 15 onwards.) However, I thought this wasn't a good idea because of the Chinese government's response to the disease, so I cancelled and changed my trip to Hawaii. I was charged a cancellation fee, but since looking at this website, I have been very glad that I decided to go to Hawaii as it seems like a great place, and I'm really looking forward to it!
4/13/2003 Already travelled 4/3/2003 Mayu Kanagawa 33 I went for 9 days, leaving on the April 4 and returning on April 12. Before I left on my trip, I had no intention of cancelling, but I was a little bit anxious. However, I looked at this website, and realized that there is no problem, and so left on my trip feeling at ease. I heard that security is very tight, but because my children were traveling with me, my suitcase wasn't opened. However, on my way home, they checked a cardboard box containing souvenirs (macademia nuts, and chocolates with nuts in.) In regards to SARS, we flew on China Airlines and were a little nervous to see that the flight attendants were wearing masks throughout the flight.
4/12/2003 Not decided yet 5/3/2003 Yuyuyu Tokyo 32 Five of us from three generations in our family were planning to go - my husband and I, our daughter, and my mother- and father-in-law. However, with the war and SARS, we are talking about what we should do. I'm not nervous and think it's probably OK. However, it's not just me that's travelling, and it's difficult trying to get a balance.
4/12/2003 Will travel as planned 8/3/2003 Pengin Tokyo 49 I'm going to participate in the marlin fishing contest in Kona (HBIT).
4/12/2003 Will travel as planned 5/3/2003 Jijii Tokyo 46 I'm going as planned. I think the worry about SARS is just the same as in Japan.
4/11/2003 Cancelled 6/3/2003 Todo-shijimi Nagano 37 I don't feel like flying with SARS and the war, so I've postponed this trip indefinitely until I do feel like going.
4/11/2003 Already travelled 3/3/2003 Anpontan Aomori 34 When I went, there still wasn't so much fuss about SARS. If people who were infected with the disease started appearing, I think I would cancel. Hawaii was peaceful, so I'm glad I went!
4/11/2003 Already travelled 4/3/2003 Paychi Hiroshima 46 My company put out an order that all travel had to be postponed, but I decided just to go anyway as my reservation had already been settled. I was doubtful, as this was my first time to plan the trip by myself and not go on a tour, but this 4 night and 6 day trip meant a lot to me. This is an old story, but on the first day of the previous Gulf War I landed in Paris, and on 9/11 I returned home from Hawaii. I hate war but I think if tourists stop coming, it will be very hard on the people of Hawaii. If you take the plunge and go, their smiling faces will take away any anxiety you have.
4/11/2003 Will travel as planned 5/3/2003 Kaoru Aichi 48 I don't think there's any worry of the war or SARS in Hawaii.
4/10/2003 Will travel as planned 4/3/2003 Yumiko Osaka 35 My schedule was messed up by the decrease in JAL flights, and so I started thinking that maybe I shouldn't go. However, I decided to go in the end, because if I don't go now, I don't know when I would be able to go next.
4/9/2003 Will travel as planned 5/3/2003 Ai Osaka 26 Finally, I'm getting to travel with my mother for the first time. If I don't take this opportunity, I don't know next when we would be able to go.
4/9/2003 Will travel as planned 4/3/2003 Charchan Shizuoka 40 I'm going to see Merry Monarch. I can't wait for the festival!
4/9/2003 Will travel as planned 5/3/2003 Yumirin Saga 33 Going each year is my one pleasure, also this is the only time I can take off work. I think these days, nowhere you can go is 100% safe. Therefore I want to go to a place I love, and do things I enjoy!
4/8/2003 Will travel as planned 5/3/2003 Subaru Hokkaido 27 I'm going for my long-planned honeymoon. I'm really looking forward to it, and also, if I don't go at this time, it will be difficult to take vacation from work. I think it's safe, so I intend to go.
4/8/2003 Already travelled
Souyama Hyogo 54 I thought Hawaii would be safe because it is a long way from where the war is happening. I took a JAL flight from Kansai Airport, and was surprised to see that the flight was almost full. Immigration was no problem, and although check-in at the hotel was supposed to be at 3pm, they let us in at 12pm. There were less Japanese there, but more people from the mainland, and the beach was lively. I really soaked up the resort atmosphere while I was in Hawaii. When I left, my bag wasn't even opened up at the airport. I went to Hawaii on April 1 and returned on April 7.
4/7/2003 Will travel as planned 5/3/2003 Kitty Tokyo 34 I plan to attend my friend's wedding. Honestly, I feel some anxiety, but I also feel that with the tight security checks at the moment, that now is maybe safer? I'm more worried about SARS than the war. I will be bringing an infant with me, and as a responsible parent I am worrying if this is the right decision. At the moment, my family are not objecting.
4/7/2003 Already traveled None Mattari Hawaii Chiba 39 You have to decide for yourself regarding the issue of war and SARS. Personally, I went to Hawaii and it was no problem! It was the best fun!!! It's OK to go!
4/7/2003 Canceled 7/3/2003 Yuuki 7 Chiba 19 I was meant to be going on a study trip with my mechanic school, but with the war, they decided to cancel early. It's too bad…just because of the war...I was looking forward to it!!
4/7/2003 Will travel as planned 5/3/2003 Kyokyu de 440 yen Kanagawa 49 I love the smell of the air in Hawaii. I love the sun. Last time I just stayed in Waikiki, but this time I will use the bus and get out further.
4/7/2003 Will travel as planned 4/3/2003 Hiroryu Hyogo 25 I'm going to Hawaii for the first time for my honeymoon.
4/7/2003 Already travelled
Chuu Tokyo 32 I went because according to my parents' opinion (my father is a policeman), it's OK to travel now because the tight security situation means that there won't be any acts of terrorism. However, of course, I felt slight anxious before we went, and changed my flight from United to ANA. I thought that a Japanese airline would be safe, and so I went.
4/6/2003 Will travel as planned
Kazue Fukushima 32 At first I didn't know what to do, but I wanted to take vacation, and people have asked me to bring back souvenirs! I haven't been for a long time so I really want to go!
4/6/2003 Will travel as planned 4/3/2003 Aloha Kumamoto 26 I've already ordered a surfboard, so I have to go. I'm also looking forward to shopping there with so few people around.
4/6/2003 Will travel as planned 4/3/2003 Aki Fukuoka 25 I'm going because my aunt is looking forward to me coming - so it has nothing to do with the war. If the war was a factor, on the contrary, I would go to the US to look after my aunt. This time I'm going to stay for 2 months.
4/6/2003 Will travel as planned 4/3/2003 Miiman Tokyo 34 We're going on our honeymoon four months late, and once I have a baby, I won't be able to go next time. We've decided to go in spite of my mother- and father-in-law's slight opposition, because it seems that the war is going to drag on for a while.
4/6/2003 Not decided yet 5/3/2003 Mimin Tokyo 33 In addition to the war, I'm also afraid of the unidentified pneumonia that's spreading at the moment. It's because I would be taking my child with me…..
4/6/2003 Will travel as planned 3/4/2003 Hide Tokyo 31 I'm going because it’s my older brother's wedding ceremony. I don't think I will be able to travel with my parents overseas again after this.
4/6/2003 Will travel as planned 4/3/2003 Chan Hyogo 22 I'm going because it's my relative's wedding, and also because I think the atmosphere at the moment is OK.
4/6/2003 Will travel as planned
Kakiemon Tokyo 40 My friend lives in Hawaii, so I know that Hawaii is the same as always. Also, I love Hawaii, so I want to go and help Hawaii recover at this time.
4/5/2003 Will travel as planned 6/3/2003 M.H Osaka 48 I intend to go as planned, as we are traveling for our 25th wedding anniversary.
4/5/2003 Will travel as planned 4/3/2003 Nalu Kanagawa 24 We are planning to see the Merry Monarch festival on Big Island. However, if the festival gets cancelled, we would go anyway as planned. Also, we would go because we have heard that people who have been to Hawaii recently have said it is OK.
4/5/2003 Will travel as planned 5/3/2003 Morotchi Hokkaido 29 The only long vacation my husband and I could take at the same time was May or August. Also, I think wherever you go at the moment are the same issues (SARS etc.), so we decided on Hawaii, which we love. I gather that people at a certain travel agency say that Hawaii is the safest place.
4/4/2003 Canceled 4/3/2003 Kurumi Kanagawa 30 I canceled because the friend I was going with felt uneasy about it… Personally, I wanted to go, but everyone else I invited didn't want to go, and I thought it would be lonely to be there by myself for 10 days.
4/4/2003 Will travel as planned 4/3/2003 Shige Miyazaki 69 I'm going now because I'm alive. Once I'm not mobile anymore, I won't be able to go anywhere. I'm going with my wife as planned.
4/4/2003 Postponed by 3 months 8/3/2003 Waikoloa Tokyo 60 Because I'm worried about terrorism. I want to be able to enjoy my tour in a calm, relaxed environment.
4/4/2003 Will travel as planned 4/3/2003 Ururu Saitama 25 I went just after the terrorist attacks the year before last, and returned home safely. Because of the recession, my husband has been working every day, and hasn't been able to take any time off. But finally he has been able to take a long vacation, and our family is going to go there and have fun. As long as our family is together, I'm not worried. Even in Japan there is the possibility of SARS pneumonia, missiles and attackers. I think it's the same wherever you are. If the war drags on then maybe we won't be able to go anywhere.
4/4/2003 Will travel as planned 4/3/2003 Yukio Hiroshima 51 I don't think there will be any affect on Hawaii. However, so I am able to cancel, I'm going to wait until just before I travel before having the fight tickets issued.
4/4/2003 Not decided yet 9/3/2003 Inagaki Aichi 45 I think I will wait until closer to the time to decide. The situation with hijackings or bombings by Al Qaida or Iraqi Islamic extremists after the Iraq war is unclear, and also there is the current problem of SARS pneumonia.
4/4/2003 Already traveled 3/3/2003 Aloha235 Fukuoka 29 I went to Hawaii 7-months pregnant and with a 1-year old child. I went because as soon as my second child is born I will not be able to go for some time. When I went, the plane was empty and so was Waikiki, which was comfortable for me, being pregnant. Of course, the people of Hawaii were friendly too, and helped to make us feel rejuvenated.
4/4/2003 Already traveled 3/3/2003 cryf Gifu 37 The plane was rather empty, but Hawaii was great. We saw a whale as well.
4/3/2003 Canceled 4/3/2003 Shuichi1950 Mie 52 Because the situation in Iraq is so uncertain.
4/3/2003 Will travel as planned 6/3/2003 Keronpa Chiba 37 I'm going because I don't want to waste the first chance I've had in 10 years, to take 10 straight days of vacation. I think will be more scary when the war with Iraq is actually over. However, the truth is that I'm going because I really want to go no matter what!!
4/3/2003 Already traveled 3/3/2003 Kaena7 Tokyo 54 I didn't have to make up my mind to go to Hawaii. The four people in my family went as planned. I think that now is even safer because security is so tight.
4/3/2003 Already traveled 4/3/2003 I love Maui! Kanagawa 40 I left on March 21, and returned on April 3. It was so, so great!! I heard that security measures in the airport and in Hawaii had been tightened, so I went. Certainly there were thorough luggage checks at Narita, Honolulu and Kahului (Maui.) The security checks meant that even the pilot and the flight attendants had to take their shoes off. (Trucks and cars were even being searched at the entrance to the airport.) Even in Honolulu, patrol cars and policemen were around and made checks.
4/3/2003 Will travel as planned 4/3/2003 Kai Hokkaido 29 I'm going because I couldn't take vacation on any other day… I was told that with JTB you can change schedule and country one time for free, but at the moment, whichever country you go to, there's still the danger of SARS pneumonia and terrorism. I though wherever I go it would be the same, so I decided to go to Hawaii.
4/2/2003 Will travel as planned 4/3/2003 Cherry Blossom Kanagawa 35 I plan to travel at the end of April. I have decided to be strong and go, because it's my sister's wedding there, and I'm really looking forward to it, and also friends of mine are going. I have been looking forward to it ever since I decided to go. However, my husband, who had also planned to attend had to cancel because his company has canceled all business and research trips except in an emergency..
4/2/2003 Will travel as planned 4/3/2003 Nyaako Hyogo 31 This time I really didn't know what to do. I feel a bit uneasy with such a large group, including my husband and myself, our two kids and a uncle. Things aren't good in the world at the moment, but I've been planning this for half a year, and this will be a great vacation to enjoy with the kids, so all of us have decided to be strong and go. We've also missed the cancelation period..... As for worries about the possibility of terrorism, Japan is supporting America, so you wherever you are there's the possibility of danger. It's going to be really fun when we go, but I think I'm going to take more care than usual.
4/2/2003 Will travel as planned 4/3/2003 Maharo Saitama 31 I was suddenly able to take time off in mid-April, and I decided to go to Hawaii because I haven't been there in a year. So after the war started I made a reservation with the travel agency. I'm certainly concerned that our 1-year old child will be with us. However, I'm going because security is so tight right now. Actually, I'm more worried about my kid being quiet in the airplane...!
4/2/2003 Canceled 5/3/2003 Eiko Kanagawa 55 I had planned to go to a wedding there, but Hawaii is also America. I am in no mood to celebrate or drink toasts while there is a war going on.
4/2/2003 Already traveled 3/3/2003 Mii Shizuoka 50 I was worried, but I got information from the Internet that local Hawaii people were carrying on with their everyday lives, so I went on March 25. Immigration was tighter than usual but polite, and there were fewer Japanese people there. But apart from that, Hawaii was the same as usual. I am truly glad that I went.
4/2/2003 Already traveled 3/3/2003 Hasshio Kanagawa 40 I think Japan is more dangerous than Hawaii, and Hawaii is safer, so I decided to go. When I went, I noticed a real difference between Honolulu Airport and Narita Airport. The leniency of the security checks at Narita make me uneasy. Haneda Airport is much better.
4/2/2003 Will travel as planned 4/3/2003 Nismo Tokyo 27 After the terrorist attacks in New York, we changed our honeymoon plans to travel within Japan instead. I'm going to Hawaii this time, because I would hate to change our plans again.
4/1/2003 Postponed by 1 month 4/3/2003 Shokku Tokyo 32 Up until yesterday I though I would go as planned, but my family is against it, and I haven't been able to change their minds. However, I really hope it is settled by the end of May. If there is still uncertainty then, then I think my family will still be against it, and I don't know whether I would be able to go. But I really want to go!!!
4/1/2003 Already traveled 3/3/2003 Momo Ishikawa 38 My friend who's living in Hawaii said "It's OK here!!", and I couldn't imagine canceling the trip myself.
4/1/2003 Will travel as planned 4/3/2003 Capris Hokkaido 29 I am taking a direct flight to and from New Chitose airport, so I don't think that would be an target for terrorism.
4/1/2003 Will travel as planned 4/3/2003 Hiro Yamagata 40 I haven't been afraid from the start. I'm traveling with a friend and family. Even if there isn't a war, you can't ever say that it's 100% safe, and mostly because the chances of terrorism happening on the Hawaiian islands is extremely small. Rather, I think there is a bigger threat in Japan from North Korean missiles.
4/1/2003 Will travel as planned 4/3/2003 ? Kanagawa 30 I haven't even considered canceling this trip, as I've been planning it for over half a year and all of my family are really looking forward to it. People around me have said "maybe postpone until the war is over." Are they worrying about me? I think it's jealousy as well! (laughing!)
4/1/2003 Will travel as planned 5/3/2003 Volcano Tokyo 40 At the moment I am enjoying planning my trip to see the volcanoes on Big Island. I am planning to relax and hangout on Big Island. I'm going because I think within Japan and overseas, things will still be at lull as they are now.
4/1/2003 Already traveled 3/3/2003 Mkan Tokyo 38 I went because the 7th Fleet aren't in Hawaii any more. Whether you are in Japan or elsewhere, the danger is the same.
4/1/2003 Will travel as planned 5/3/2003 Makiko Other 29 I have lived in New York for 3 years. I was there during the terrorist attacks. This time I have to return to Japan because of visa issues. On the way home I am going to Hawaii for my honeymoon. If you're too guarded, you can't do anything and it is also bad for the economy.
4/1/2003 Will travel as planned 4/3/2003 Kaori Osaka 34 Today I will leave from Kansai Airport. What is my reason for going? My whole family loves Hawaii, and we also want to support the Hawaii people in the middle of this adversity.
3/31/2003 Not decided yet 6/3/2003 Hisachin Tokyo 31 My friends are planing to hold their wedding in Hawaii in June, but if they cancel it, then I will probably cancel my trip as well.
3/31/2003 Will travel as planned 6/3/2003 Shizufuu-chan Saitama 41 We both work, so it is rare for us to take some time as a couple to relax together. Twice a year, we take vacation time together and travel overseas, and it is the one thing we look forward to. In June we plan to travel to Hawaii (staying in Maui), and we spent from the beginning of the year until the beginning of February making the arrangements. This time is different from the time of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. We heard that the security at the airports is very strict, so we decided to go. I pray that this war ends soon, and that peace comes to the Iraqi people.
3/31/2003 Will travel as planned 4/3/2003 Kurota Okayama 26 I will be getting married on April 22 at the Kawaihao church. It has been planned for over a year and I really want to go, even it is during wartime.
3/31/2003 Will travel as planned 4/3/2003 Risa Chiba 31 I will be staying in Honolulu for 2 nights, then Big Island for 4 nights. After working continuously for 10 years, this will be a refreshing vacation. As long as planes are flying, I am definitely going! If anything happens, then that is my fate.
3/31/2003 Will travel as planned 8/3/2003 Fukuya Tokyo 46 Every year my family takes our summer holiday there. Last year, as soon as we returned, we made our reservations.
3/31/2003 Will travel as planned 4/3/2003 Saaya Aichi 22 At first I though about canceling, but I looked at this website, the news and other places and thought that it seems OK. Most of all, it's because I really want to go there!!
3/31/2003 Already traveled 3/3/2003 Mino san Tokyo 65 I traveled from March 15 to March 25. On my flight out there, a person had a fever of 39.5 degrees. So when we arrived in Hawaii, a US Quarantine official came on board, and everyone had to wait in the plane. It took 1 hour for the check to be finished, and for us to be permitted to get off the plane. It's not just about the war, but also about SARS. When the war started and I was returning home, the security checks were tight, but Hawaii seems peaceful like always, and I was able to enjoy St. Patricks Day. What made up my mind to go, was that it could be dangerous even in Japan, and the tight security checks make me feel at ease.
3/31/2003 Will travel as planned 4/3/2003 Pata Iwate 43 I want to Hawaii straight after the terrorist attacks in 2001. Apart from airport security being very tight, nothing in Hawaii had changed. On the contrary, there were fewer Japanese people but more Americans who came because they thought Hawaii was safter than the US mainland. Because of this, it made it feel more like I had gone overseas. This time too, I will be traveling to Hawaii as planned.
3/31/2003 Will travel as planned 6/3/2003 mmmidori Tokyo 46 I am traveling with my parents to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary. Their anniversary is this November, but the most convenient time for us to go is in June. I got agreement from everyone who is traveling, so at the moment I don't think our plans will change.
3/30/2003 Cancelled 9/3/2003 Alice Tokyo 28 I had planned to go there on my honeymoon, but I cancelled.
3/30/2003 Already traveled 3/3/2003 smile Aichi 43 I felt uneasy, but I really wanted to go whatever, so I went. Now that I have returned home, I am very glad that I didn't cancel. My week in Hawaii was very peaceful, and really put my mind at ease. I could really relax, and didn't hear a thing about Iraq. Since I have returned home to Japan, from morning to night, all I hear is Iraq, Iraq.
3/29/2003 Will travel as planned 6/1/2003 Noriko Tokyo 33 Wherever you go, you can run into terrorism, so I have decided to go. However, in truth I feel my spirits sink when I think of the war.
3/29/2003 Will travel as planned 7/3/2003 Machi Fukuoka 35 I work at the airport for an international airline. When the terrorist attacks happened the year before last, the airplanes going to Hawaii were almost empty. However, my friends that went at that time, said that Hawaii was the same as always, they were very satisfied that they were able to spend a relaxing time in an upgraded hotel. Because of their experience, I too have decided to go as planned.
3/29/2003 Will travel as planned 5/3/2003 ? Ibaragi 22 I went straight after the terrorist attacks as well, but I didn't feel any danger at all. In fact, being in Hawaii gives you peace of mind. I'm worried about the decrease in tourists having an effect on the stores.
3/29/2003 Not decided yet No plan Nomisan Chiba 65 I'm afraid of terrorism, and the tight security measures at the airport are troublesome.
3/29/2003 Will travel as planned 7/3/2003 aloho.o Kyoto 31 I am a little uneasy, but I think it is the same wherever you go. The possibility of danger isn't limited to overseas or Hawaii - I think it's the same whenever and wherever you are. Hawaii's warm climate and atmosphere feels more peaceful than being in Japan.
3/29/2003 Already traveled 3/3/2003 Nobusan Kanagawa 49 (1) My whole family was able to take vacation, so I didn't want to lose this opportunity. (2) I looked at this website and thought that "Hawaii still seems OK."
3/29/2003 Already traveled 3/3/2003 Choko Tokushima 36 Because there wasn't a cancelation notice from the travel agency.
3/29/2003 Will travel as planned 7/3/2003 Fami Tokyo 37 Because my trip is scheduled for July, at the moment I can't determine what will happen with the war in three months' time. Because I am traveling for pleasure, I would consider changing the date or canceling my trip. I don't want the war to last that long, and also I would be disappointed not to be doing anything because of fears of terrorism.
3/29/2003 Will travel as planned 5/3/2003 Mau Kyoto 31 I want to attend a good friend's wedding, and also my friends are looking forward to meeting up over there.
3/29/2003 Postponed by 12 months 8/3/2003 MO-san Iwate 52 Because I don't know how long the war will be and when it will end. Also, I think Hawaii is OK, but the situation around the world is too bad at the moment.
3/29/2003 Already traveled 3/3/2003 Acoustic Guitar Osaka 36 I wanted to cancel, but my husband decided to go because there would be a cancellation fee, and he said that Hawaii is safe. At the hotel, an emergency alarm sounded, I think when the bombing began (about 5am). It was immediately turned off, but because we were staying in a high-rise building, we were quite nervous. That was the only scary experience.
3/29/2003 Postponed by 4 months 5/3/2003 Sari Nara 32 Because I am bringing an infant, I plan to postpone my trip until September. I have only made reservations at the hotel, so I intend to cancel them.
3/29/2003 Already traveled 3/3/2003 Mamayu Hyogo 26 As I didn't want to waste the money for the trip, and also because I was looking forward to it, I ended up going on the very day the war began!! I was a little uneasy about it, but when I went there it was absolutely fine! Hawaii didn't seem to have changed at all.
3/29/2003 Will travel as planned 5/3/2003 Keiko Aichi 50 I have been working and saving money to go to Hawaii. Also, the period for applying for vacation time has already ended. As long as airplanes are flying, I will go!!!
3/29/2003 Cancelled 6/3/2003 Satosh Tokyo 35 My wife had planned to give birth in Hawaii, but we thought about the situation, and unfortunately had to give up on the plan.
3/29/2003 Already traveled 3/3/2003 Iwamoto Tottori 35 A few hours ago today, March 28, I returned home from a 5-night, 7-day trip to Hawaii. Of course, I was worried about the war and terrorism, but it would have been a waste of money to pay the cancelation fee, and even if I stayed in Japan, there is the danger of terrorism there as well. So, I made the decision to go. However, when I arrived in Hawaii, those fears just floated away. Hawaii was the same as always, except that I felt there were slightly fewer Japanese tourists. I forgot all about the war and terrorism. Hawaii is paradise whenever you go. I didn't want to return to Japan! If I had the money and the time, I would go back to Hawaii tomorrow.
