2006 Japanese Survey Major Success - 2007 Survey Launched
PacRim is proud to announce the launch of the 2007 ONOLICIOUS survey . This successful survey is informative resource for PacRim clients. It provides critical data clients can utilize to identify trends and improve their marketing campaigns. View press release below on the 2006 Onolicious survey and results.
CHEESECAKE FACTORY A HIT WITH JAPANESE
Honolulu
--Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center foot traffic is sure to remain brisk, as the Japanese public has voted The Cheesecake Factory the "most popular" restaurant in Hawaii for Japanese travelers.
The Cheesecake Factory, located at the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center, and the nation's top grossing Cheesecake Factory with more than $20 million in sales last year, nabbed three ONOLICIOUS readers' awards in a recent contest based on a survey of Japanese travelers. Survey results published in the annual Japanese Hawaii Globetrotter Travel Guide Book show that Cheesecake Factory was voted the best in three categories: "Best Taste," "Restaurant for Families," and "Restaurant Overall," making it the most popular restaurant, overall, amongst survey respondents. "Japanese usually prefer smaller portions, but The Cheesecake Factory proves that great food and atmosphere at reasonable prices attract the Japanese," said Dave Erdman, president of PacRim Marketing Group, Inc., sponsor of the on-line ONOLICIOUS survey and owner of the Hawaii-arukikata.com website on which it appears.
ONOLICIOUS Awards were given to The Cheesecake Factory and other Honolulu restaurants based on responses from 1,526 Japanese answering an on-line questionnaire in 2006. Other popular restaurants included Eggs 'n Things, Mariposa, Alan Wong's, and Leonard's Bakery that ranked 5th overall but first place for "great places for sweets" category.
Past ONOLICIOUS Award winners include Eggs-N-Things, Mariposa and the Hanohano room. Eggs-N-Things ranked number one in the past three years in the overall category but fell to 2nd place this year. Yummy's Korean BBQ has also consistently ranked in the top five positions during the past three contests.
This is the fourth consecutive year that the ONOLICIOUS survey has been conducted and that awards have been given by PacRim Marketing Group, Inc. and Diamond Big Corporation, publisher of the annual Chikyu no Arukikata Hawaii Globetrotter Travel Guide Book for the Japanese market. The survey questionnaire is posted annually on the www.hawaii-arukikata.com , the largest and most popular commercial Japanese web site on Hawaii, viewed by nearly 20,000 people in Japan each day and consistently ranked in the top listings for the largest search engines on Hawaii in Japanese, including Google and Yahoo! Japan.
Survey respondents can select from a list of two hundred restaurants (or write in a restaurant name) and then vote for one in each of five themes: "Most Delicious;" "Great for Families;" "Great Place for Lunch;" Great Places for Dinner" and "Great Places for Sweets" Points are tallied across all categories to create the "Best Ten."
Of the survey respondents in 2006, 26 percent were men and 74 percent were women. The average age for the male respondents was around 40. The average age for the women is estimated at 34. The median number of visits to Hawaii for all respondents was an average of two, but more than 150 people said they had been to Hawaii ten times, while over 200 people said they had been to Hawaii more than fifteen times. Forty-six percent of the respondents said they had traveled to Hawaii with their family; 26 percents said they traveled with their spouse; and 17 percent said they traveled with a friend.
PacRim Marketing Group conducts on-line surveys on its Hawaii-Arukikata web site on a regular basis to measure attitudes, likes, and dislikes of Japanese travelers, specifically those planning to visit Hawaii. "The web site is a great place to do market
research, as the Japanese are Internet savvy and love sharing travel-related opinions and information on-line," said Erdman.
